Funeral

Funeral — Dermot Kennedy

We were starin' down disaster That night, we almost called it quits You said that you were changin' chapters I said, "This can't be where it ends" Not even poetry can fix this Right now, we both need more than words If we give up, we're gonna miss this Can we remember who we were? Standin' on St. Bridget's Road Where we finally let it go We held a funeral for heartache We buried trouble in the grass We didn't bother buyin' roses 'Cause we ain't ever goin' back I don't know nothin' 'bout tomorrow I barely know about today We set a fire to our sorrow And watched the hurt go up in flames Grief is such a solid promise Joy just leaves you in the rain Sadness waits down in the lobby Solace stood you up again I'm thankful for the darkness Everything it let me see So much beauty in the storm Like how you turned to me If I'm honest, you're the reason that the light gets in at all You're the song that breaks the silence You're the smile at curtain call I'm scared of who I'd be without you much more than you know If I seem strong, it's just a show Standin' on St. Bridget's Road Where we finally let it go We held a funeral for heartache We buried trouble in the grass We didn't bother buyin' roses 'Cause we ain't ever goin' back I don't know nothin' 'bout tomorrow I barely know about today We set a fire to our sorrow And watched the hurt go up in flames No, no, no, we ain't ever goin' back No, no, no, we ain't ever goin' back We held a funeral for heartache We buried trouble in the grass We didn't bother buyin' roses 'Cause we ain't ever goin' back I don't know nothin' 'bout tomorrow I barely know about today We set a fire to our sorrow And watched the hurt go up in flames
